All about BINARY!
All about BINARY

Overview

All computer data is represented by two numbers only – 0 and 1 – which are known as binary numbers.  This data is expressed in the binary numeral system or base-2 numeral system. When these numbers are joined together, they are referred to as bytes. In these activities, we going to learn how these to numbers – 0 and 1 – can represent EVERYTHING a computer needs to know.

What are these activities for?

These activities are designed for children to better understand what binary numbers are, and what function they have in computing and coding.

What is the connection of the activities to learning about computing?

The binary coding activities are aligned with Mathematics in terms of describing patterns and continuing sequences, as well as exploring and representing numbers in base 2.

What are the skills needed / enhanced?

  • Sequencing
  • Counting
  • Matching

Who can do the activities?

All children ages 7 and above can play the following activities, or even the younger ones as long as they know the skills needed in the activities.
